Quick Start Guide
In this quick start guide, we’ll cover the basic setup of your PagerTree account, with the goal of getting you setup in the shortest amount of time. The basics will include:

A user represents an actual person within your organization. Each user will have their own contact information and notification preferences.
Teams represent actual teams within your organization. They logically group together:
A team’s on-call schedule determines which user is on-call for any given time. Additionally, each on-call schedule can have many layers, and each layer is associated to an escalation rule.
When an alert is created it will be assigned to a team and will follow the alert workflow for that team, notifying users on-call of the incident.
In order to get the most out of PagerTree, you are going to want to automate your incident creation. We support many popular tools with our growing database of integrations. Each integration comes setup guide (click the logo) that will walk you through the process of setting up the vendor specific integration.
If for some reason we don’t have the integration you are looking for, please reach out to email@example.com and request a custom integration be built. If you’d rather do it yourself, you can always use the generic webhooks integration to connect any backend tool to PagerTree.
PagerTree is all about simplifying on-call. We intentionally leave it up to each user to maintain their own notification preferences and up-to-date contact information.
Users can select up to 5 different notification channels which include: push, email, sms, voice, and slack.

Edit Notification Preferences
- Click your name in the upper left-hand corner.
- Toggle the switches on the notifications channels you would like to receive notifications on.
High Level Alert Workflow
As a reference, the diagram below shows the high level workflow for alerts and how they move within the PagerTree system.
- A 3rd party software sends PagerTree data
- The PagerTree integration accepts the data, transforming it to a PagerTree alert
- (Optional) A router, matches conditions and performs actions on the alert
- The alert is routed to a team.
- The alert uses the team’s on-call schedule, notifying layers of the escalation workflow
- The user will be notified via their preferences
- Notification rules can customize notification channels to notify the user on
- A notification is created and sent to the user via our communication providers
