Notifications
What is a Notification?
Notifications are messages sent to an account user via a supported channel: push, email, SMS, voice, WhatsApp, or Slack.
They are generated by alerts, broadcasts, and the PagerTree system. Notifications cannot be manually created.
Phone Notifications (SMS & Voice)
PagerTree sends SMS and voice notifications from the following numbers:
- +1 (817) 592-8301
- +1 (817) 539-6888
- +1 (817) 592-6665
Download the PagerTree contact card (vCard) to save these numbers to your phone as a single contact. This is also required for DnD bypass — see Bypass Do Not Disturb.
Voice notifications are only sent for alert open events. You will not receive voice notifications for alert timeouts, drops, broadcasts, or other system events.
SMS Opt-In & Terms
PagerTree sends SMS notifications to phone numbers verified by account users. To receive SMS notifications:
- Navigate to My Settings.
- Click Add Phone, enter your number and select a verification method, then click Update.
- Enter the 6-digit code you receive and click Verify.
- Ensure SMS is enabled in your notification preferences.
Message frequency varies based on your alert volume and notification rules. Msg & data rates may apply.
To opt out of SMS notifications at any time, reply STOP to any PagerTree SMS. To re-enable, update your notification preferences in My Settings. Reply HELP for assistance or contact support@pagertree.com.
For full terms, see our Terms of Service.
App Notifications (Push)
To receive push notifications:
- Download the Android or iOS app.
- Allow push notifications when prompted.
- On iOS, also allow Critical Alerts when prompted (required for DnD bypass).
- Register your device.
- Ensure push notifications are enabled in your user preferences.
To bypass Do Not Disturb (DnD), the alert urgency must be set to critical.
Register Your Device
- Navigate to My Settings.

Bypass Do Not Disturb
There are two methods to bypass DnD — setting up the PagerTree contact and configuring the PagerTree app. We recommend doing both for the most reliable alerting.
First, download and save the PagerTree contact card (vCard), then follow the steps for your device below.
Bypass DnD — Android
There are two complementary methods to bypass DnD on Android. We recommend configuring both for the most reliable alerting - one covers push notifications via the app, and the other covers calls and SMS via your contacts.
Method 1: Allow PagerTree App to Bypass DnD
This ensures push notifications from PagerTree can always interrupt DnD.
- Open Settings and tap Modes.

- Tap Do Not Disturb.

Tap "Do Not Disturb" to configure its exceptions
-
Under Notification filters, tap Apps.
-
Make sure Selected apps is chosen, then tap the gear icon next to it.

- Confirm PagerTree appears in the list of apps that can interrupt. If it is not listed, tap Add apps and add it.

Method 2: Allow Starred Contacts to Bypass DnD
This ensures PagerTree voice calls and SMS messages can always interrupt DnD.
First, star the PagerTree contact:
- Open the Contacts app and tap the PagerTree contact.
- Tap the Star icon in the top right to mark it as a favorite.

Then, allow starred contacts through DnD:
- Open Settings and tap Modes → Do Not Disturb.
- Under Notification filters, tap People.

- Tap Calls, then select Starred contacts.

- Go back and tap Messages, then check Starred contacts.

Method 3: Enable Override DnD in the PagerTree App
The alert urgency must be set to critical for this to take effect.
- From the app home screen, tap My Settings.

- Scroll to Other Settings and tap Mobile App Settings.

-
In Android Settings:
- Tap Notifications.

- Tap Critical.
- Enable Override Do Not Disturb.

Bypass DnD — iPhone
Step 1: Enable Emergency Bypass on the PagerTree Contact
- Open the Contacts app, find the PagerTree contact, and tap Edit.

- Scroll down to Ringtone and Text Tone, and tap one.

- At the top of the menu, toggle Emergency Bypass to on. Repeat for both Ringtone and Text Tone.

Step 2: Allow Critical Alerts in the PagerTree App
The alert urgency must be set to critical for this to take effect.
During app installation, when prompted about Critical Alerts, tap Allow.

All critical urgency alerts will now trigger a Critical Alert on your iPhone, bypassing DnD and playing a loud audible sound.
Notification Persistence (Push)
When persistent notifications are enabled, push notifications are re-sent every 90 seconds for up to 1 hour if unacknowledged.
To enable:
- Navigate to My Settings.
- Scroll to Other Settings.
- Select the alert urgency level that should use persistent notifications.

Persistent Notification Setting
- Click Update.
Custom Sounds (Push)
Custom notification sounds are supported on both Android and iPhone.
- iPhone: Custom sounds play automatically — no extra configuration needed.
- Android: Custom sounds must be configured in the app settings (see below).
Custom Sounds on Android
- From the app home screen, tap My Settings.

- Scroll to Other Settings and tap Mobile App Settings.

-
In Android Settings:
- Tap Notifications.

- Select the notification channel you want to customize.
- Tap Sound.

- Tap My Sounds.

- Select your desired sound.

Troubleshooting Push Notifications
If you are not receiving push notifications, work through the following steps in order:
- Check user preferences — Ensure push notifications are enabled in your user preferences.

Push Notifications Enabled
- Check app permissions — Ensure the PagerTree app has notification permissions enabled in your phone settings.

Android Permissions
-
Check device registration — Ensure your device is registered.
-
Check notification rules — Ensure no notification rules are overriding push notifications.
Reset Push Notification Token
If you're still not receiving notifications after the steps above, try resetting your push token:
- Navigate to My Settings.
- Scroll to App Registrations.
- Click Remove on all registered devices.
- Click Update to save.
- Click Register this device to re-register.
- Click Send Test Notification to verify.
Reinstall the App
If resetting the token doesn't resolve the issue, reinstalling the app may help.
Before reinstalling:
- Navigate to My Settings.
- Scroll to App Registrations and click Remove on all devices.
- Click Update to save.
Reinstall:
- Uninstall the PagerTree app from your device.
- Reinstall from the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS).
After reinstalling:
- Open the app and allow all permissions when prompted.
- Navigate to My Settings.
- Click Register this device.
- Send a test notification to confirm everything is working.
Troubleshooting WhatsApp Notifications
If you are not receiving WhatsApp notifications:
- Ensure WhatsApp notifications are enabled in your user preferences.
- Ensure no notification rules are overriding WhatsApp notifications.
If notifications still aren't arriving or show an undelivered status, open WhatsApp and send a message with the content ? to the PagerTree WhatsApp number: +1 (817) 592-8301. This re-establishes the connection between PagerTree and WhatsApp, which can sometimes be interrupted if messages are flagged as spam.
